Love Your Smile Provides Critical Dental Care to Albuquerque Kids

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (Feb. 13, 2015) –
More than a dozen children from the Albuquerque area received free dental work on Feb. 7 at Pima Medical Institute's Albuquerque campus as part of the annual event, Love Your Smile.
This is the first time Pima Medical has hosted the event. Children ages 6 to 14 received fluoride treatments and sealants, which help to prevent cavities. The Tooth Fairy also dropped by to teach kids how to properly brush. Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay. Treatments make the tooth's surface more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria that live in plaque. It also adds calcium back into teeth, making them stronger.
Dental sealants are placed within the chewing surfaces of molars, which are considered the most susceptible to tooth decay.
Pima Medical Institute's Albuquerque campus
offers an associate degree program in dental hygiene and a dental assistant certificate program. It also runs a dental clinic, which provides extremely low-cost dental care to the community. Information about the clinic may be found at http://pmi.edu/Dental-Clinic/Locations
