Pima Medical Institute Offers New Emergency Medical Technician Program at Mesa Campus

Posted: May 1, 2013 by Elizabeth Baker

MESA, Ariz. (May 1, 2013) – Pima Medical Institute, a leading private health care career college, announced today the offering of a new certificate program for emergency medical technicians. The 10-week program will prepare students for entry-level careers as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) with a proven combination of didactic instruction and hands-on experience.

Pima Medical Institute’s Emergency Medical Technician program helps students prepare for careers as basic EMTs. They will learn how to provide competent care quickly, offering life-saving support to patients who are critically injured in emergency and traumatic situations. They will also learn how to safely transport patients to emergency departments at medical facilities, and more.

“We have seen an increased demand for this type of program in the Valley and we are proud to be able to offer students a way to reach their career goals,” said Mark Luebke, president of Pima Medical Institute. “With our history of providing quality health care education to students and qualified health care professionals to employers, we are excited to continue to address the needs of our neighbors and help build a stronger, healthier community.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects job opportunities for EMTs to be good, with employment expected to grow 33 percent through 2020.

The program helps students start their careers in the health care field in just 10 weeks. The rigorous curriculum includes instruction on anatomy and physiology, patient transportation, trauma, medical emergencies and skills necessary for pre-hospital settings. The second half of the program in spent in clinical settings that allow students to apply the objectives learned in the classroom.

Graduates of the program receive a certificate and are eligible to apply to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and apply for state EMT certification.

Pima Medical Institute offers career planning services – such as help with writing resumes and sharpening interview skills – for every student. For more information about the new EMT program and other programs offered at Pima Medical Institute, visit pmi.edu.
