Posted: September 15, 2014 by Elizabeth Baker

MESA, Ariz. (Sept. 15, 2014) As the healthcare industry continues to grow, more high school graduates and non-traditional students seeking a career change are turning to schools like Pima Medical Institute for hands-on training and future job opportunities.

Pima Medical Institute’s Mesa campus is renowned for its consistently excellent instruction and successful post-graduation job placement. Its students have some of the nation’s highest passing rates on licensure and accreditation exams due to the education and preparation provided at the Mesa campus.

They are successful in landing jobs following graduation and employers know they’re getting employees with a comprehensive education and high standards of achievement.

  • Medical Assistants: Pass rate for first attempt candidates was 93.3 percent for 2014, which is the highest in Arizona and the nation
  • Nursing: Quarterly pass rate was 96.9 percent (May 2014)
  • Occupational Therapy Assistants: A 100 percent pass rate for January 2014 graduates
  • Physical Therapy: A 100 percent pass rate for April 2014 graduates
  • Radiography: A 100 percent pass rate for December 2013 graduates
  • Respiratory Therapy: A 97 percent Certified Respiratory Technician pass rate for 2013, the highest in Arizona
There are a number of reasons why PMI Mesa graduates are so successful.

“For starters, we have a strong partnership with many of the prominent healthcare employers in the Valley. We work closely with them to tailor our curriculum to meet the skills and education their future employees will need, as well as prepare our students for successful exams and licensing,” said PMI Mesa Campus Director Kristen Torres.

There also is a supportive environment with faculty assistance, tutoring and resources on campus to help students be successful.

“Career Services is an entire department devoted to helping students prepare resumes, practice job interview skills and find employment for that transition into the workforce upon graduation,” Torres added. Christine Nelson, a Mesa resident, graduated from PMI’s Occupational Therapy Assistant program in December 2013.

“Once my children were off to school, I decided to do the same myself,” Nelson said. “My coursework and training at PMI was instrumental in finding a job immediately after I completed my program, and I felt very prepared for my first position.”

Nelson had several job offers when she graduated and currently works in three contract positions, as she enjoys the variety each position offers.
