| UNLOCKING THE
SECRET TO SUCCESS
Chula Vista, CA
- TRAINING IS KEY COMPONENT
FOR CAREER IN HEALTHCARE
Job security, expanding
opportunities in a growing field, the excitement of learning
and applying leading-edge technology, coupled with the
intrinsic desire to help others are just a few of the
reasons men and women are seeking careers in the healthcare
industry.
The future is shining brightly for those interested
in this burgeoning profession. The U.S. Department of
Labor projects that 2.8 million new jobs will be added
in the healthcare industry. The estimated 26% increase
is unprecedented in U.S. history and shows no sign of
slowing.
According to the Bureau of Vital Statistics, Dental
Assistants, Medical Assistants, Medical Secretaries,
Radiography Technicians and Respiratory Therapists are
listed in the Top 20 for jobs that will be most in demand
through 2010. Due to the expanding population of the
elderly, as well as the increased use of innovative medical
technology for intensive diagnosis and treatment, the
demand for these jobs is expected to increase for 50
years.
Although the future is bright for those interested
in becoming Dental Assistants, Medical Assistants, Medical
Secretaries, Pharmacy Technicians, Radiographers, Respiratory
Therapists and Veterinary Assistants, employers have
high expectations for their healthcare staff. The key
to success is proper training and hands-on experience.
Anticipating this growing need for healthcare practitioners,
Pima Medical Institute, 780 Bay Blvd. # 101 in Chula
Vista offers short-term certificate training (20 to 35
weeks depending on the program) as well as Associate
of Occupational Science degrees.
“We’re not just a vocational school, but
also a life-altering entity that nurtures competent medical
professionals who can meet the expectations of 21 st
century employers,” said Lisa LaTourette, director
of marketing for PMI. “Our mission is to improve
the quality of people’s lives by providing the
thorough training and experience they will need to be
successful in their chosen field.”
Students and employers agree that the quality of the
training is essential to ensure a successful career in
healthcare.
“The curriculum is what makes Pima Medical Institute
different,” said Denise Rivera, a graduate of the
institute’s Dental Assistant Program. “Other

as what I learned, and these people even went to school
longer than I did.”
