Follow your passion for a career in healthcare and make a difference.

Taylor was feeling unfulfilled as a receptionist and struggled to find the confidence she needed to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She enrolled in the Nursing Assistant certificate program at our East Valley campus which provided a pathway for her to continue her education in the Patient Care Technician program.

With support from her advisor and instructor, Taylor graduated from both programs and established a healthcare career she enjoys. Learn how her experience provided her the skills and confidence she needed to grow into the healthcare professional she is today.

Patient Care Technician students learn how to provide proper wound care, including the removal of sutures and staples.

However, I struggled with homesickness and I dropped out. I tried community college, but gave up my dream and got a job as a receptionist. After a year of feeling really unfulfilled, I searched online and found Pima Medical Institute. My advisor told me about their Patient Care Technician (PCT) program, which really interested me, but I told him I didn’t think I was smart enough. My test score indicated I was very capable, but he said, “I think you need a win after all you’ve been through.” He suggested I start with the Nursing Assistant (CNA) program first, with the goal of continuing into PCT.

My instructors knew my name and my classes were really small, so I couldn’t hide and had to participate. Shortly after completing my CNA, I began the PCT program. I became so passionate and didn’t want to miss a day. My externship was at a hospital emergency room and I really enjoyed it and the nurses trusted me. After graduating, I was hired at Banner Heart Hospital as a monitor technician and I fell in love with EKGs.

Pima Medical not only provided me with skills, they gave me the confidence I needed to continue my goal of nursing school and I’m currently attending a BSN program. I know I wouldn’t be in nursing school without Pima Medical. I actually believe everyone considering nursing should start with the PCT program. It will provide confirmation if you’re uncertain and great job skills.”

If you are interested in starting a career in healthcare, but unsure where to begin, the Nursing Assistant to Patient Care Technician pathway may be the right choice for you. Learn more today about this and other healthcare career pathways our programs have to offer.
