Over the course of 29 years, Medical Career Specialist John Gilbert helped thousands of people receive their healthcare career educations at Pima Medical Institute. He officially retired on Dec. 31, 2016.
John started with Pima Medical in 1986, working at the Mesa, Arizona, campus. Eventually he transferred to the East Valley campus when it opened in 2008. According to Pima Medical records, he was directly involved in helping 4,342 people graduate.
“John Gilbert has been a 29-year fixture at Pima Medical. In fact, it’s hard to think of Pima Medical without him,” said CEO and President, Fred Freedman. “John’s passion for education and enthusiasm for helping others makes him among the best we’ve ever had representing us in our Admissions Department. We couldn’t ask for more and couldn’t be happier that John is able to retire in comfort and spend time with his family that he loves so much. It’s what we all work for.”
John’s true job satisfaction came from seeing students graduate and find a career. Their success is what motivated him each day, he said.
“The best day for me was when they got a job. I loved helping them find their potential. Pima Medical was the best job I’ve ever had in my life. It was a career, not a job. And Pima Medical really is my family. I have two families—here at home and my career family.”
John plans to stay in Arizona and he said his top priority currently is to visit his grandchildren—and maybe mow the lawn.
We thank John for his unwavering dedication to Pima Medical Institute’s students. He helped improve thousands of lives!
