MESA, ARIZ. (June 14, 2014)
The Mesa campus of Pima Medical Institute (PMI), a private post-secondary education and training school, was recognized by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) as having the highest national pass rate for their Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program.
The CCMA is one of three certification programs recommended by PMI for students enrolled in the Medical Assistant program.
“The CCMA is a bit more difficult than the other two but we want to set the standards higher for our students at PMI Mesa,” said Linda Bird
, AS, RMA, PMI Mesa Campus Lead Instructor. “By doing so, we provide the community a more qualified healthcare professional and the medical employers a more qualified employee.”
The first group of PMI Mesa students to take the certification exam did so in May 2013. The following chart compares the pass rates from the past 12 months for PMI Mesa, Arizona and the nation:
||1st Quarter 2014
||4th Quarter 2013
NHA also recognized that in the previous three months, 92% of PMI’s candidates passed their certification exam on the first try compared to a national rate of 75%.
Bird cites a number of reasons for the increases in passing rates over the previous 12 months:
- Increased emphasis on taking advantage of lesson module review sheets and practice tests
- Study group sessions focusing on course materials and exams both during class time and outside of school
- Increased worksheets and quizzes focused on the exam information.
is one of the PMI Mesa students who recently passed the exam. “I believe the teaching methods the PMI instructors use really helped us to prepare for the exam,” said Allen. “I originally chose PMI when I decided to enter the Medical Assistant program based upon a recommendation, but they’ve exceeded my expectations,” he added.
The CCMA program is one of several certification programs offered at Pima Medical Institute.
