Clinical duties may include:
- Preparing patients for exams
- Taking patients’ medical histories
- Answering patient questions about treatments/procedures
- Assisting physicians/nurses during exams
- Collecting and preparing lab specimens
- Performing basic lab tests
- Facilitating prescription refills
- Informing patients about medications
- Removing sutures or changing dressings
Clerical duties may include:
- Welcoming patients
- Answering phones
- Scheduling patient appointments
- Filing patient records
- Filling out insurance forms
- Handling billing
- Navigating computer systems and applications
Students in the Medical Assistant certificate program will gain a broad set of skills that they can apply to a number of medical office environments. Classes focus on topics such as examination techniques, surgical procedures, medical office laboratory procedures, medical law and more, taught by instructors with years of experience.
Through hands-on training and equipment that mirrors real-world settings, students will learn how to properly interface with patients, record vital signs, collect/prepare laboratory specimens, instruct patients about medications, authorize drug refills, draw blood, perform injections, take electrocardiograms and other important skills necessary to work as a medical assistant.
This certificate program will prepare graduates to apply their skills in many settings, such as:

What is the application process?
It’s as simple as filling out a form on the website or giving one of our admissions support specialists a call. From there, our team will assist you as you complete an application, schedule an admissions meeting, tour the campus (in-person or virtually), and take any required entrance assessments. From there, your advisor will walk you through enrollment and your financial aid options.
Does Pima Medical offer hybrid education?
We recognize that learning experiences are as individual as our students. To meet the growing need of those looking for a blended learning environment, Pima Medical is now offering Hybrid Education options for several of our nine-month certificate programs.
Pima Medical’s Hybrid experience is a structured online education combined with hands-on lab practice and features:
