What does a Phlebotomy Technician do?
- Draws blood specimens by venipuncture, syringe and micro-collection techniques
- Prepares samples for laboratory testing and analysis
- Assembles and maintains medical instruments such as needles, test tubes, blood vials and centrifuges
Some of the courses throughout your education include Anatomy and Physiology, CPR and First Aid and Phlebotomy: Venipuncture, Urinalysis and Centrifuging and Processing. The classes give you the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience with procedures used in the emergency room, phlebotomy lab, with electrocardiography (EKG) and hemodialysis. Your education also includes an externship, allowing you to practice your skills in a real-world healthcare setting prior to graduation.
