Today and tomorrow respiratory therapists, students, educators, medical device experts and many others are gathering at the Wigwam Resort in Phoenix, Ariz., for the 50
th annual
Arizona Society for Respiratory Care (AzSRC) Annual Conference and Expo.
It’s an opportunity for respiratory therapists and others in the field to collaborate, share ideas, advances in treatment, the latest in technology, education, and much more for two days. Guest speakers talk on several topics, such as the future of respiratory therapy, advanced treatment options, reducing readmissions, technological advances, and much more.
Check out the photos below of Pima Medical students, instructors and staff participating in this year’s AzSRC conference.

Also, at 6 p.m. tonight, after the convention wraps up, some of the best and brightest
respiratory therapy students in Arizona will compete in the state Sputum Bowl challenge—including RT students from Pima Medical’s
Mesa and
Tucson campuses.
The winning team will go on to the national finals Oct. 15-18 at the
62nd International Respiratory Convention & Exhibition, hosted by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). This year’s AARC Congress will be in San Antonio, TX.
RT students from Pima Medical’s
Albuquerque,
Denver and
Las Vegas campuses are already slated to attend the 2016 AARC conference’s Sputum Bowl after winning their state’s competitions. If an Arizona Pima Medical team wins tonight, we will send four campuses to the finals in San Antonio.
Sputum Bowl aims to inspire interest in respiratory care, current-day practices and in-depth knowledge. It is a Jeopardy-style game where students must quickly and accurately answer questions that range from anatomy and physiology to mechanical breathing and disease.
Pima Medical has an outstanding track record for winning state and national Sputum Bowl titles. Last year, RT students from the Las Vegas campus won the national title. Pima Medical also sent RT students from Mesa, Albuquerque and Denver to the 2015 national competition, held in Tampa, Fla.
In 2014, three campuses from Pima Medical – Denver, Las Vegas and Tucson, Ariz., competed in the state championship, with Denver winning the national title. Pima Medical has won the competition several times, including in 2014, 2008, 2006 and in 2005. In 2010, the Denver faculty won in the Practitioner Sputum Bowl championship.
