Pima Medical Institute’s El Paso campus recently donated hundreds of items to the El Paso Humane Society and El Paso Animal Services. A time when these donations are needed the most during the hot summer months.

“There are a lot of animals in need,” El Paso Campus Director, Keever Jankovich said to ABC 7 News. “Animals can’t speak for themselves, so they need our help.”

The Shelter Drive at the campus donated the following items:
  • 452 towels and blankets
  • 121 bags of dog food
  • 38 bags of dog treats
  • 59 bags/cans cat food
  • 117 dog and cat toys
  • 140 pet supplies (i.e. bowls, leashes, beds)
  • 6 kennels
The El Paso Humane Society is a no-kill shelter and has saved over 4,100 animals in the last year, which can be expensive for the upkeep of the shelter, medical needs and supplies, food and more.

“It costs about 2 million dollars a year for us to save those 4,100 lives,” Humane Society Executive Director, Luke Westerman said to ABC 7 News. “In fact our goal this year is to save over 4,500 lives and our goal for next year is to save 5,500 lives. Our need to continue to raise money or get in-kind donations like we received today from Pima is paramount.”

Pima Medical Institute loves to give back to our communities and get involved as much as we can. We take pride in helping others and have a long history of philanthropy, which all started with our founders, the Luebke family.

If you’d like to gain a rewarding career in animal care, Pima Medical’s El Paso campus offers a Veterinary Assistant certificate program and a Veterinary Technician associate degree program. We also offer a variety of other healthcare career programs.
