MESA, Ariz. – (Oct. 30, 2013)
Pima Medical Institute, a leading private health care career college, announced today the offering of a new associate degree program for paramedics
. The program will prepare students with a proven combination of didactic instruction and hands-on experience for careers as paramedics.
The program helps students begin their careers as paramedics in about 14 months. The curriculum builds upon skills and knowledge obtained during EMT instruction. Coursework includes topics such as anatomy and physiology, pediatric emergencies, trauma and more.
“We are excited to add the Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic degree to our emergency medical services program offerings,” said Mark Luebke, president of Pima Medical Institute. “This program provides a clear path for graduates from our Emergency Medical Technician certificate program and current EMTs to further their education, their careers and their futures. We’re happy to continue to offer ways for students in our community to reach their goals and give back to the community.”
Among the qualifications for the program, students must be at least 18 years old, hold an active EMT certificate and interview with college officials. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) at the paramedic level and apply for state paramedic certification.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects job opportunities for paramedics to be good, with employment of both paramedics and EMTs expected to grow a total of 33 percent through 2020.
Pima Medical Institute offers career planning services – such as help with writing resumes and sharpening interview skills – for every student. For more information about the new paramedic program and other programs offered at Pima Medical Institute, visit pmi.edu
