Sputum Bowl aims to inspire interest in respiratory care, current-day practices and in-depth knowledge. It is a Jeopardy-style game where students must quickly and accurately answer questions that range from anatomy and physiology to mechanical breathing and disease.
Last year, three campuses from Pima Medical – Denver, Las Vegas and Tucson, Ariz., competed in the state championship, with Denver winning the national title. Pima Medical has won the competition several times, including in 2014, 2008, 2006 and in 2005. In 2010, the Denver faculty won in the Practitioner Sputum Bowl championship.
The Sputum Bowl is an annual part of the American Association for Respiratory Care’s (AARC) yearly congress, which features the latest in technology and breakthroughs in respiratory care.
