Pima Medical Institute recently celebrated the grand opening of its Veterinary Technician associate degree program at its Albuquerque campus.
Faculty, staff and current students provided tours of the campus and a firsthand look at the lab classroom, to those interested. Featuring real-world equipment you would find in any veterinary provider’s office, it was an opportunity to highlight the quality education this campus has been providing since it first opened its doors in 1985. Potential students and community members even got to witness a surgical nursing simulation.
The Albuquerque campus has offered a Veterinary Assistant certificate program for many years. With the addition of the Veterinary Technician associate degree program, students looking to continue their education have a clear path and the continuing support of the faculty and staff they have gotten to know. Program Director, Dr. Becky Malleck says she hopes the addition of this program will also help to fill the need for qualified veterinary technicians throughout in and around Albuquerque.
Graduates of the Veterinary Technician program will enter their field qualified and ready to work closely with veterinarians in everything from surgery to lab procedures and more. Our Veterinary Technician graduates will also find a wide variety of employment opportunities. Some might choose a clinic or traditional veterinary office setting while others might choose to explore work in an animal park, or even a zoo treating domestic and exotic animals.
The Albuquerque campus offers six certificate programs and five associate degree programs.
