Blending medicine with technology, the ophthalmic medical technician can initiate patient exams, measure and record visual stats, perform diagnostic procedures, assist in clinical and surgical settings, prepare patients for eye-transplant surgery, and more.
What Will I Learn With This Training?
At Pima Medical Institute, your courses will introduce you to aspects of the complete eye exam, surgical assisting, ultrasound, digital photography and light-based imaging of the eye with scanning lasers. Pima Medical is the only school in Colorado and surrounding states offering this program.
Instructors with years of industry experience will teach you to:
- document patients’ medical and ocular histories
- instruct patients about medications, tests and procedures
- perform preliminary vision, ophthalmic ultrasound and diagnostic testing prior to physician examination

- collect data and measurements to allow the correct diagnosis and treatment of eye disease
