Program Objective
This certificate program will provide you with the training needed to prepare to work as a capable entry-level medical administrative assistant. At Pima Medical Institute, you will gain the skills needed to work in health care administration, such as medical insurance procedures, coding and billing tasks, triaging patients and more. Medical administrative assistants are the front face of the medical office, so classes also focus on the soft, professional skills that foster an optimum patient experience.
Medical administrative assistants are key members of any medical office team. This is an entry-level position with many opportunities for growth. While this role does not perform clinical work on patients, it provides vital support to doctors and nurses by ensuring the office runs smoothly and efficiently.
The day-to-day duties of medical administrative assistants include verifying medical insurance, working with electronic health records, preparing office correspondence, assisting with reports and triaging appointments.
Students in the Medical Administrative Assistant certificate program will develop both the interpersonal traits and professional skills to succeed in this role and move up in the field. Gain knowledge from courses that focus on medical terminology, medical law, medical insurance, computer programs, accounting procedures and more.
Courses also focus on anatomy, physiology, office management, business writing and electronic health records, all taught by qualified instructors.

Job Outlook
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of secretaries and administrative assistants is projected to show little or no change from 2024 to 2034.
Despite limited employment growth, about 358,300 openings for secretaries and administrative assistants are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Most of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.
