Earn your Health Care Administration certificate at Pima Medical in less than a year.

If you are a person, who is passionate about helping others, interested in a career in health care and love the administrative or business portion of work, health care administration could be a great fit for you.

At Pima Medical Institute, students receive hands-on learning to prepare them for an entry-level role as a health care administrative assistant, also known as a medical administrative assistant. These positions do not interface directly with patient care; rather they greet patients, triage appointments and provide other office-related assistance.

If you’re interested in this field, there are plenty of opportunities to continue your education and increase your job opportunities. But, before you get your foot in the door, there are some soft skills you should have to make sure this will be a fit for you.
  1. Communication: This should not be a surprise. Communication is important for any administrative position, but it’s even more important in the health care industry. As a health care administrative assistant, you must be articulate and clear when interacting with patients and explaining things like insurance or policies and procedures.

  2. Teamwork: Are you able to be a part of a group, working toward the greater good? As a member of the team you will often be the first face a patient sees and a key part of the entire office or practice. If you’re able to go out of your way to help your patients and teammates, you’re well on your way to becoming a great health care administrative assistant.

  3. Problem-solving: Are you able to solve problems quickly? Whether it’s a medical situation, clinical issue or an administrative conflict- you must have the ability to creatively remedy the situation, and do it quickly.
While these are just three “soft-skills,” they are sure to will help you on your path to become a successful health care administrative assistant. And, if you are interested in growing your career, you can use your health care administration certificate from Pima Medical as a pathway into leadership with a Health Care Administration Associate degree. Pima Medical also offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership with a focus on Health Care Administration.
