DILLON, Mont. (Aug. 8, 2017) – Pima Medical Institute’s Dillon, Mont., campus will host an open house on Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will get a first-hand look at what students in the Veterinary Technician associate degree and Veterinary Assistant certificate programs do each day in the hands-on lab. Visitors will also get to meet faculty, check out the hands-on equipment and curriculum, and find out how they can enroll and start a career in the veterinary field.

Pima Medical’s Veterinary Technician program is the only one in the state of Montana. In May it received its American Veterinary Medical Association accreditation. The lab and classrooms are located on the University of Montana Western's campus and the programs are offered in collaboration with the university.

Also in May, the program graduated its first cohort, with seven Veterinary Technicians completing the program. A new cohort of students, who enrolled in the Veterinary Assistant program, are now working toward their Veterinary Technician associate degrees.

The public is encouraged to stop by for tours. Current students and faculty will be on hand to talk to anyone interested in the programs.

Over the programs’ 18-month period, students learn animal behavior, care, surgical assisting, laboratory testing and nursing procedures. Veterinary technicians that graduate are qualified to work closely with veterinarians in the areas of surgery, lab procedures and radiography.
