3 REASONS TO EXPLORE THE OPHTHALMIC MEDICAL TECHNICIAN CAREER

Have you always been interested in healthcare, technology and working with people? If so, an ophthalmic medical technician career may be the right one for you.

For over 20 years, Pima Medical Institute in Denver, Colorado, has provided ophthalmic medical technicians with the education they need to succeed in the field.

Here are three reasons to take that next step and explore the ophthalmic medical technician career.

1) You’re Curious About Working in Healthcare
Ophthalmic medical technicians play a key role in eye care. They collect and report data to the ophthalmologist so that they can make the right diagnosis for patients. Ophthalmic medical technicians work in a wide range of healthcare settings, including:
  • Ophthalmic offices
  • Hospitals
  • Multi-specialty clinics
  • Refractive surgery centers
Our ophthalmic medical technician program instructs not only in general ophthalmology but also in all of the ophthalmic sub-specialties, including cornea, retina, glaucoma, pediatrics, oculoplastics and neuro-ophthalmology.

2) Technology Excites You and Learning it can Increase Career Opportunities
Pima Medical Institute’s ophthalmic medical technician associate degree provides students with hands-on experience using ophthalmic equipment and technology, giving them a leg up once they enter the work force.

Throughout the 20-month program, students learn to perform the components of a complete eye exam, and use diagnostic testing to identify areas of disease within the eye.

Our students learn from classroom instruction and gain hands-on experience with retinal photography and ultrasound to view the structures and pathology of the inner eye, as well as measuring the length of the eye and corneal thickness. Students are also able to image the retina, optic nerve and anterior structures of the eye with scanning lasers and to assist in the many sterile surgical procedures performed in ophthalmology.

Technology within the ophthalmic field is rapidly advancing. There is a growing demand for well-educated ophthalmic medical technicians due to the increasingly aging population in the United States. This creates great job opportunities and excellent job placement following graduation. We make sure our students are ready to hit the ground running when they enter the workforce.

3) You Want to Help Others
The ophthalmic medical technician career is great for those who love to interact with patients and want to be a vital part of their eye care.

After studying under instructors with their own professional experience, our students are knowledgeable, with a deep understanding of the field and its job expectations.

Pima Medical Institute not only graduates top ophthalmic medical technicians, but also assists them in their job search process after they’ve graduated. Student success is our number-one priority.
