Respiratory Therapy students from
Albuquerque and
Denver will compete first week of October.
Pima Medical Institute
respiratory therapy students from the Albuquerque, N.M. and Denver campuses will head to the national Sputum Bowl challenge, happening Oct. 4-6 in Indianapolis, Ind. during the
American Association for Respiratory Care’s 2017 annual conference.
Pima Medical has sent students to the
national finals for many years in a row, and won the championship in 2015, 2014, 2013, 2008, 2006 and 2005.
This year’s team members include:
Albuquerque:
Robert Candelaria, Dylan Rustvold, Celene Estrada and Joseph Gonzales
Denver:
Krystal Spangler, Tyler Roberts, Hanna Hamilton and Paxton King
Our students will be up against some tough competition from schools across the United States. The competition is a Jeopardy-style game where students must quickly and accurately answer questions that range from anatomy and physiology to mechanical breathing and disease.
Last year, four campuses from Pima Medical competed in the state championship. The
Sputum Bowl is part of the AARC’s yearly conference, which features the latest in respiratory therapy technology, breakthroughs in treatment and education. Practitioners, students and instructors from across the country attend.
