MESA, Ariz. (April 9, 2013) –
Pima Medical Institute, a leading private medical career training college, recently participated in the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities’ (APSCU) Hill Day to inform politicians about the need for non-traditional higher education, how it positively affects students and how the private education sector fills a need in the nation’s higher education landscape.
, campus director at Pima Medical Institute’s Mesa location, attended Hill Day on behalf of the school. Torres met with the offices of several federal politicians from Arizona and New Mexico, states where Pima Medical Institute has multiple campus locations.
“It is obvious that Congress supports education initiatives for a more prosperous economy and nation, but it is important for private sector colleges and universities to highlight how we serve non-traditional students, and bridge the skills and employer gap plaguing our country,” said Torres. “Continuing to reach out to our local, state and federal elected officials is imperative to help them understand the need our schools meet in our communities.”
As part of the event leading up to Hill Day, the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities recognized Pima Medical Institute for their local political outreach efforts.
“Pima Medical Institute was presented with APSCU’s Grassroots Award, which acknowledges the efforts made by schools to reach out to and engage with politicians at the state and local level,” said Torres. “We are honored that APSCU recognized the efforts our campuses have made to showcase the significant impact made on the lives of residents in the communities we serve. We are humbled that APSCU chose to present Pima Medical Institute with the award.”
