Seattle Campus Dental Hygiene student Mackenzie Miller was recently awarded the prestigious Platinum Educational Group scholarship. The scholarship was created originally for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) students, and in 2016 Platinum Group expanded its program to include the nursing and allied health fields as well.

Mackenzie’s thesis portion of her scholarship application was impressive and defined inadequacies of geriatric dental care in long-term care facilities. She said, “Long term care facilities fall short in meeting the oral health needs of their geriatric patients, and dental hygienists need to reevaluate their dental delivery framework to help close this gap in care.” She added, “Dental hygiene as a profession has an ethical and professional responsibility to ensure that all members of our community have access to quality, affordable and accessible care.”

Pima Medical’s Seattle campus opened in 1989. As a result, students benefit not just from hands-on learning, experienced instructors and real-world lab classrooms, they also benefit from a more than 30-year history of developing relationships within the local medical community.

According to Platinum Educational group, its goal is to provide students entering the EMS, nursing, and allied health fields with assistance in funding their education. “With the rising costs of tuition and program fees, it is an honor to assist others in embarking on the dream of providing needed healthcare services to our communities, said Doug Smith, Platinum Education Group CEO. Smith is also a former high school teacher and paramedic, so he understands the need firsthand.

Pima Medical Institute opened its doors in Tucson, Arizona in 1972 with a mission to improve the quality of people’s lives by providing the best value in medical career education. A mission that continues today with its 18 ground campuses and robust online program.
